Almond Milk Oatmeal
Obviously when you have a milk allergy you need to start looking at milk alternatives. We originally had a different brand recommended to us but we soon learn about carrageenan (research it yourself but it's a thickener used in a lot of milk alternative products that has been linked to stomach cancer) and so we switched to Silk. They all taste good now that we are used to almond milk but especially for something we are trying to sweeten anyway my staple is the Silk Pure Almond Original Sweetened. We buy it at Costco. We have also tried soy but we realized that was causing my son some stomach issues so we try to limit soy in his diet.
A favorite breakfast for my son has always been oatmeal. He's independent and likes that he can pick it up fairly easily himself. He also likes all the extra you get to put in it.
On this day I made the oatmeal with water and then added the almond milk, banana, craisins, chia seeds, and cinnamon.
My son will drink the almond milk in a cup but I still can't do that. It's a fine substitute and I'll eat it with some granola or in recipes.
